What is the Medical Modeling and Simulation Database

Eastern Virginia Medical School, located in Norfolk, Virginia, has developed this new web-based portal dedicated to medical modeling and simulation in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons.

This portal serves as the premier gateway to a broad array of resources and services related to the medical modeling and simulation world, including content for practitioners, researchers, and those working in academia.

One of the key features of the portal is the Medical Modeling and Simulation Database (MMSD). The MMSD was developed to foster awareness of the magnitude and breadth of the activity and to foster collaboration among researchers and others in the field by bringing like-minded organizations and researchers into more frequent contact with each other, thus speeding the advancement of the medical modeling and simulation domain.

The MMSD consists of several web-based searchable collections. The Research Articles database is a focused database that primarily contains downloaded bibliographic citation data from MEDLINE® in its database. The Companies and Products database contains information on the companies that produce commercially available medical modeling and simulation products along with information on the products themselves. Neither the Companies nor Products Folders are meant to be all inclusive but rather representative of the types of companies and products available. The Simulation Centers and Simulation Sites of Interest database contains information on primarily academic-based research centers conducting work on medical modeling and simulation along with information on their respective research projects. Finally, the Meetings and Conferences database contains information on upcoming medical modeling and simulation meetings and conferences throughout the world.

The databases are powered by ArchivalwareTM, a web-based full-text search and retrieval system that supports search inquiries using Boolean searches, natural language Concept searches and Pattern matching (fuzzy logic) methodologies. Queries can be made against the full-text of digital documents, key metadata fields, or a combination of both.
