How to Use the Medical Modeling and Simulation Database

General Search Tips: The Search Box opens to Pattern. You may select Concept or Boolean.

  • Searches are not case sensitive, so capitalization is unnecessary and will accept mis-spellings.
    • Enter laparoscopy
  • All searches in MMSD automatically retrieve both singular and plural forms of words.
    • Enter Simulation to retrieve documents containing the words Simulation and/or Simulations.
  • Use quotes to search for a specific phrase or name.
    • Enter "Barbara L. Bass, MD"
  • Searches can request "Full Text articles" by including in Search: Example:
    "Simulation Full Text Articles".

Browse

  • When you use Browse you will access Collections. Each folder will contain a grouping of articles, conferences, companies or products. The folders will be updated 4 times per year to provide the most current publications. Click on any folder to retrieve the subject information.

Preferences

  • The individual user may set "preferences" located in the Search/Browse box on the left. Additional information, if available, may be viewed, such as URL, description, etc.

Headers

  • Each page has headers at the top of the page. The Headers may be clicked to achieve a reordering of the results. Click on "Name" on a Browse Folder results page and the results will reorder in alphabetical order. Click on "Date of Publication" on a Search Results page and the page will reorder in ascending order and a second click will reorder in descending order.
